Brunch is a way of life in Fort Lauderdale. Out-of-towners marvel that we'll wait an hour-and-a-half for a seat at the right table on the water, and the morning cocktail scene is lively. On Saturday night we may share bottles of Super Tuscan and an arugula salad, but come Sunday morning, it's all back to the roots of eating for pleasure. Runny, cheesy eggs, thick bacon, chicken and waffles, pancakes, crepes, seafood galore... The staples we love and crave, but elevated to a whole new level.

This city is home to many flavors of brunch spots, from raw bars to shi-shi restaurants to good old-fashioned American breakfast diners. We have brunches based in almost every cuisine at almost every price level in almost every neighborhood, but the one thing they all have in common: fat and calories will make fitting into that bikini pretty damn hard. Curious that a city so prideful of it's beautiful, slender population would also be home to an enormous number of foodies who really dig that boozy brunch.

Falling into both categories is common, but you'll

really need a gameplan if you're going to keep your figure and be queen of the brunch scene.

Here's six tips to take on the temptations and rock the daytime party circuit.

1.) Skip the pastries alltogether. They're full of the evil white twin sisters, flour and sugar.

2.) By all means, have the bottomless mimosas, but alternate please with glasses of water or you'll be a haute-mess by the time the hot guys arrive.

3.) Eggs, yes. Cheese, no. Veggies, yes. Toast, no.

4.) Fill up on the shellfish if it's part of the buffet. Shrimp and lobster have less than one gram of fat per serving and oysters are great source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and D, and are also high in iron, calcium, magnesium and other minerals.

5.) Lox are loaded with Omega 3 fatty acids which are lovely for lowering the risks of poor cardiovascular health (which we'll discuss tomorrow when we wonder why we've ditched spin class for hot-yoga) and fight inflammation (you're eyes are still a little puffy from last night's late night last dance) but bagels are an absolute no-no. Scoop up extra capers berries instead... yum!

6.) Berries: Blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries. All are awesome for reducing the effects of alcohol (you've ordered the bottomless mimosas remember?)

Antioxidants. Potassium. Natural sugars. Vitamins. Digestive enzymes. Forget the greek yogurt and the granola. Granola is a sugar-coated lie and milk makes mucus and that is NOT hot.

So, there you go. Now put on your favorite frock and get out there girl. Make sure to take your sunglasses and your SPF. That sun is evil this time of year.

Kisses!
